Taraz, located in southern Kazakhstan near the Kyrgyz border, is one of the oldest cities in Central Asia, with evidence of settlement dating back over 2,000 years. It was the site of the famous Battle of Talas (751 AD).

The city's rich heritage is visible in its medieval mausoleums, including the beautifully restored Karakhan and Dautbek mausoleums from the 11th–12th centuries.

Modern Taraz is a pleasant city with tree-lined avenues, a vibrant bazaar, and warm hospitality.
